GMRIS - Net Help
 1. GMRIS - Introduction
The GMRIS - Net is based on two main applications. The GMRIS - Catalog and the GMRIS - Maps. The usage and functionality of GMRIS - Catalog and GMRIS - Maps are explained in the following sections. Background information about the project can be found at the GMRIS Project Web Page .

 2. GMRIS - Catalog
The GMRIS-Catalog provides information about data available at the MRA through a catalog search on a combination of keywords, map sheets, user defined spatial extent, and reference scales. The resulting layers matching the search criteria are displayed in a table unveiling further metadata and providing preview functionalities in an interactive map for each dataset listed.

 2.1 Catalog - Start Search
By clicking the GMRIS-Catalog-Link the following page will be shown:

In the first part of the page the search criteria could be selected.

By selecting one or more criteria in different lists a combination of search criteria is possible. If you want to see all available data you have to select in every list the criteria "-any-". There is also a map to find a spatial region of interest. Beneath the map the center point coordinates [degree] and the map width [km] are displayed.

The following map tools are provided:

Zoom In
Zoom Out

Full Extent

To start the search with the selected search criteria you have to press the "Submit" button. If you want to use also the current map extent as search criteria you should select the box "Search using map extent below".

 2.2 Catalog - Result Page
As result page the user will get a table like the following:

The table shows information of the available data matching the search criteria. So the title of the data , the keywords, the scale, the number of features and the scale are displayed for each dataset. The three functions "Details", "Preview", and "Columns" for each layer are described below.

 2.2.1 Catalog - Result Page - Details
By clicking on the details image the user gets some metadata information about the current layer from the database. The shown table contains information about the extent, the spatial reference system, and more.

 2.2.2 Catalog - Result Page - Preview
By clicking on the preview image the current layer with the coastline will be shown in a new map.

The following map functions available for each layer:
Zoom In
Zoom Out
Recenter
Full Extent
Info - shows feature information in a table by clicking one feature in the map
Print Preview - possibility to make a snap-shot of the current map view
Back - set the last map extent as the current
Search in View Extent - search feature which match the input search citeria and mark them in the map. As wildcard the "%" can be used.

Clear Search Results - remove the selection of the search result
Zoom to Map Sheet 100k - possibility to zoom to a selected 100k map sheet

Zoom to Map Sheet 250k - possibility to zoom to a selected 250k map sheet

 2.2.2 Catalog - Result Page - Columns
By clicking on the columns image the column description of the current layer is shown in a table.

 3. GMRIS - Maps
The GMRIS - Maps allow interactive map query and hold a collection of different map compilations. Single layers will be visible or un-visible while navigating the map, thus adapting to different zoom levels. The interactive "Info" function will display the attribute information of all layers of the map for the feature found at the selected coordinate. All data are stored and displayed in geographic projection based on WGS84.

All map compilations are composed of the same map elements - map, toolbar, center point coordinates, map width, overview window and layercontrol.

Following map tools are available for the GMRIS - Maps:
Zoom In
Zoom Out
Recenter

Show legend

In the layercontrol the user can change the visibility of all layers and also the possibility of labeling layers. With the buttons on the right hand side of the layercontrol you can choose the column which should be used for labeling, change some font properties for labeling and set new limits for the zoom range in which the layer is visible.
